General Information
- Weave Description
-
Barbed Celtic is a transformation of Celtic weave where the stabilizing wing rings are further inverted, connected through each other (obliqued), and locked into the adjacent single rings. In Barbed Celtic, this results in layered twist "Barbs".
If the transformation makes the barbs:
- Mirror Step - the resulting weave is Bipolar Bees (Non Alternating).
- Layered Step - the resulting weave is Currently Undescribed (I think)
- Mirror Twist - the resulting weave is Bipolar Beestings (Non-Alternating)
Citation note: The MAIL citation for this weave points to an entry that we consider to be a captive variant of this weave and that is listed on this site as Barbed Helm (Captive).
Nomenclature note: Through structural study it has been found that this weave, while containing a parallel grain, is a transformation of the weave Celtic and does not contain Helm. As such, the name "Barbed Helm" is a misnomer. For this reason, the weave (and its variants) has been renamed to Barbed Celtic.
