Dragon Tail Half Persian tutorial

Photo Tutorial Dragon Tail Half Persian tutorial

This tutorial demonstrates how to make the Dragon Tail Half Persian chain (https://chainmaillers.com/maillepedia/1700/). As if its name didn't give it away, this weave is a hybrid of Dragon Tail (https://chainmaillers.com/maillepedia/302/), and Half Persian (3 in 1) (https://chainmaillers.com/maillepedia/492/). It is recommended that you're familiar with both.

Ring size:
core (white): 6.2 AR
inner (red): 4.0 AR

The difference between the two must be at least 2.0. Because the small rings in the Dragon Tail edges are AR-locked in a lean row, the ring sizes must not be too loose or they might slip.

1. Start with one large ring connected to one small ring.

2. Place one large ring over the small ring.

3. Connect a large ring to the small ring making sure the ring from step 2 ends up in the middle.

4. Add one small ring to the middle large ring (left).

5. Add one small ring to the middle large ring (right). Arrange them as a lean row.

6. Add a large ring to the right.

7. Add a small ring to the right.

8. Add a large ring to the left, if you prefer.

9. Add a small ring to the left to finish this, fifth cell.

10. Extend the Dragon Tail chain. This one is eight cells long. It doesn't have to be this long, and five might even be enough cells to establish the chain if you prefer to lengthen the ring by ring once established, shown below.

11. Add a large ring to three other rings. It goes left through the first and second, and right through the third.

12. Add the second Half Persian 3 in 1 ring left through two, right through one. It leans against the previous.

13. Add a small ring to the large ring added in step 11.

14. Nest the small ring you just added in step 13 in the center of the ring added in step 12.

15. Add the third HP3-1 ring, except also pass through the small ring.

16. Add a small ring to the middle large ring and layer it against the previous small ring.

17. Add the fourth HP3-1 ring, also ensuring it passes through the small ring added in the previous step.

18. Add the third inner DT ring.

23. Add the seventh HP3-1 ring.

24. Add the sixth inner DT ring.
dthp24.jpg

25. Turn the chain so what was at the top in the previous steps is to the right.
dthp25.jpg

26. Add the seventh inner DT ring by tucking it underneath the previous one to maintain the lean row.
dthp26.jpg

27. Add the eighth HP3-1 ring. Because it is at the end of the chain, it only connects to two large rings in its opposing lean row using a TE connection. Be sure and orient it through the small ring also.

28. Add the eighth small ring to finish off this cell, layering it under the previous small ring.

Lengthening:

29. Place the chain down with its HP3-1 peak up.
