This tutorial demonstrates how to make Etesian (Ulu) (https://chainmaillers.com/maillepedia/1612/) from a Half Persian 2 in 1 Spine (https://chainmaillers.com/maillepedia/486/) starter piece. If you don't have one, refer to the following tutorials before continuing:
Ring size:
The rings used in this demonstration have an AR of 5.3. This ring size makes a chain with considerable flexibility.
The construction method shown here is very straightforward with the same step repeated until the chain is established. The process can be difficult to start because HP2-1 Spine has the tendency to unspiral, and the first connections can be hard to see. Rearrange the chain as needed.
1. Start with a piece of HP2-1 Spine. Notice that it has 4 independent rows. Each of the rings in the rightmost row (red) will be reopened and connected to 2 rings of the first row, thus making a seamless tube.
2. Open the SECOND red ring from the top and connected it to the top 2 rings from the first row. It is very important that you use an AE (around the eye) connection type. The red ring above this one will naturally fold inward. It will be dealt with later. Please note that the rings at the top of the first row are still arranged the same way, the red ring pulls them in a bit. The chain will correct itself over the next few steps.
3. Open the third red ring from the top. Then proceed to make an AE connection to 2 rings from the first row: the lower ring from the previous step, and the next one below it.
4. Open and connect the fourth red ring back onto the first row's third and fourth rings.
5. Open and connect the fifth red ring back onto the first row's fourth and fifth rings.
6. Open and connect the sixth red ring back onto the first row's fifth and sixth rings.
7. Open and connect the seventh red ring back onto the first row's sixth and seventh rings.
8. Open and connect the eighth red ring back onto the first row's seventh and eighth rings.
9. Open the FIRST red ring at the top and connect it to the rop ring from the first row.
Lengthening:
10. Turn the chain this way. The rings added in the following steps will each pass through two.
11. Add a ring. It will pass through the two rings pointed out in the previous step.
12. Add a ring (red). It makes an AE connection to two rings of the lower lean row.
13. Roll the chain over.
14. Add a ring. This is done in the same way as in step 11.
15. Add a ring AE to the lower lean row. This is a repeat of step 12.
Repeat steps 11 - 15 to further continue the chain.
