This tutorial is for Helm Ladder (https://chainmaillers.com/maillepedia/1624/). This weave consists of short segments of Helm Chain (https://chainmaillers.com/maillepedia/551/) sideways-tethered in series as a band.
Ring sizes are used:
Small ring (blue): 3.5 AR
Large ring: 5.7 AR
3.4, 5.6 also works and provides enough flexibility for general applications. 3.3, 5.5 works as well, but starts to limit flex. Combinations above 3.5, 5.7 will be looser.
Step 1:
Connect 2 large rings to 2 small rings and arrange them as shown.
Step 2:
Place a closed large ring over top of the 2 small rings.
Step 3:
Add a large ring to the 2 small rings. This will lock the large ring from the previous step in place.
Step 4:
Add a second large ring to the 2 small rings to complete the first Helm Chain segment.
Step 5:
Add 2 small rings to each pair of large rings.
Step 6:
Add 2 large ring to 2 small rings.
Step 7:
Add 2 small rings to the 2 large rings added in step 6.
Step 8:
Insert a large ring between the 2 large rings added in step 6, and go around the 2 small rings added in step 7.
Step 9:
Add 1 large ring to the 2 small rings at the left side of the chain, and the 2 small rings added in step 7, behind the large orbital ring.
Step 10:
Add 1 large ring to the same rings as that added in step 9, except position this one in front of the orbital ring. This completes the second Helm Chain segment.
Step 11:
Add 2 small rings to each pair of large rings in the previous Helm Chain segment.
Step 12:
Add 1 large ring to each pair of small rings added in step 11.
Step 13:
Add 2 small rings to the large rings added in step 12.
Step 14:
Place a large ring over top of the 2 small rings added in step 13.
Step 15:
Add 1 large ring to the lower right, passing through 4 small rings.
Step 16:
Add 1 large ring to the lower left to finish the third Helm Chain segment.
Repeat steps 5-10, or 11-16 to lengthen.
