How to choose jump ring sizes for Centurian Biased Weave

I've made chain maille before, but I haven't used the recommended ARs on this site to choose jump ring sizes. I'm looking at the Centurian Biased Weave, and see 2 AR options, with what I assume are recommended corresponding ARs for both the rings used. What puzzles me is that the second option says "Ring Sizes for AR: 3.7" and lists 3.97mm 18 ga ID jump rings with an AR: 3.89 as a recommendation. The corresponding recommendation for the second ring is "Ring Sizes for AR: 6.3" and lists 6.55mm 18 ga ID rings with an AR: 6.42.

I don't know how to translate that into what compatible sizes to use for both rings. I have 4mm ID 18 ga rings that fit the first spec. However, how do I figure out what to use for the second, much larger rings?

Many thanks,
Marcie Rae

Hi,

The directions are telling you 'perfect' would be AR 3.7 but we don't have that in 18ga so try 3.97mm which is an AR 3.89 (so will be slightly loser). 3.97 is 5/32" hence the weird number.

Second ring is perfectly 6.3 AR which also can be approximated by 18 ga 6.55mm (which is very weird and just over 1/4") giving an AR 6.42, again slightly floppier than ideal.

So if you can get them, 18ga 6.5mm would do for the second ring.

Hope that made sense?
