Beaded Filigree Cuff​

Materials​

For a 18cm cuff, you will need:

• 228 small silver anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 4.2mm, WD 1.2mm
• 40 large silver anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 6.7mm, WD 1.2mm
• 20 red Czech glass pony beads
• silver plated 4-strand clasp

Tools:

• two pairs of smooth jawed chain nose, flat nose, or bent nose pliers

Instructions​

1. Make the following two units, which you will join together in subsequent steps:
   
   Link two large silver rings to each pony bead and position one ring on each side as shown (left-hand picture). Make 20 of these beaded units.
   
   Link four small closed rings with two small rings to make a short 2-in-2 chain (right-hand picture). Make 19 of these chain units.
   
   
   
   
   
2. The rings added in the following steps are shown in red for clarity. All the rings used to make your cuff from step 2 onwards are the small rings. It is useful to have a small pile of open small rings ready in order to link the cuff together.
   
   Link one beaded unit to each side of one chain unit using one small ring each time.
   
   
   
   
   
3. Weave one small ring in between the end two rings of the chain unit as well as through the two rings added in step 2. The picture below shows this ring added from two different viewpoints.
   
   
   
   
   
4. Link one small ring through the ring added in step 3 and the nearest large ring of the right-hand beaded unit. Repeat with a second small ring to link the left-hand beaded unit. The picture below shows this ring added from two different viewpoints.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Position the chain made so far as shown. The rings added in steps 3-4 make up one end of the cuff.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Position the large ring of a beaded unit in between the two loose rings of the chain unit in the centre. Weave one small ring through the intersection of these three rings and link to the nearest large ring of the right-hand beaded unit. Link the left-hand beaded unit in the same way.
   
   
   
   
   
7. On the right-hand side of the cuff, position the end of one chain unit so that the two loose rings at one end sit on either side of the large ring of the beaded unit. Weave one ring through the intersection of these three rings and link to the upper large ring of the beaded unit added in step 6. Link a second small ring through the same intersection of three rings (right-hand picture).
   
   
   
   
   
8. Repeat step 7 on the left-hand side of the cuff.
   
   
   
   
   
9. On the right-hand side of the cuff, position the large ring of a beaded unit in between the two loose rings of the chain unit. Weave one small ring through the intersection of these three rings and link to the nearest large ring of the centre beaded unit. Link a second small ring through the same intersection of three rings (right-hand picture).
   
   
   
   
   
10. Repeat step 9 on the left-hand side of the cuff.
    
    
    
    
    
11. Position the end of one chain unit so that the two loose rings at one end sit on either side of the large ring of the centre beaded unit. Weave one small ring through the intersection of these three rings and link to the nearest large ring of the right-hand beaded unit. Link to the left-hand beaded unit in the same way.
    
    
    
    
    
12. Repeat steps 6-11 until your cuff is the required length, finishing with step 11.
    
    
13. You will now finish the end of the cuff:
    
    Position one closed small ring in between the two loose rings of the chain unit in the centre. Weave one small ring through the intersection of these three rings and link to the nearest large ring of the right-hand beaded unit. Link the left-hand beaded unit in the same way (left-hand picture).
    
    Weave a second small ring through the small ring just added and link to the same large ring of the right-hand beaded unit. Repeat to link the left-hand beaded-unit (right-hand picture).
    
    
    
    
    
14. Join the loose edge rings using two small rings each time.
    
    
    
    
    
15. Using small rings, link each part of the 4-strand clasp to the end of the cuff as shown.
    
    

Variations​

• Use gold with black pony beads or black with white opal pony beads.
• Use toning pony beads such as aqua, sapphire blue, cobalt blue and capri blue with silver or complimentary colours like Autumn shades in topaz, red and hyacinth (orange).
• Use pastel jump rings with a darker pony bead such as ice pink with amethyst beads.
