Photo Tutorial Beaded Japanese 12-1 Bracelet

Author's Note
Our projects were very popular during the lifetime of our business and we wanted to ensure they continued to provide inspiration for chain maillers whatever their experience. It's a pleasure to see they will live on with Chainmaillers.com

Beaded Japanese 12-1 Bracelet

You will need to choose rings that will accommodate a bead plus twelve joining jump rings. We have used bright aluminium rings but these can be easily substituted with anodised aluminium for a bit of colour or other metals such as copper or bronze.

Materials

For a 18cm bracelet, you will need:
  • (A) - 24 bright aluminium jump rings ID 10.3mm, WD 1.63mm
  • (B) - 135 bright aluminium jump rings ID 4.2mm, WD 1.29mm or use anodised aluminium to add colour to match or contrast with your bead
  • (C) - 6 bright aluminium jump rings ID 3.2mm, WD 1.29mm
  • 24 Czech glass pony beads 9mm, one colour or assorted colours, or any large holed bead
  • two large lobster clasps, 14mm or 2-strand clasp
Tools
  • two pairs of smooth faced chain nose or flat nose pliers

Instructions

  1. Open 24 large jump rings (A) and 63 jump rings (B).

    Close 72 jump rings (B).

Place one bead and three closed jump rings (B) onto open jump ring (A).

  3. Place another large jump ring (A) through the three closed jump rings (B) from the previous step. Add one bead and three more closed jump rings (B). Repeat step 3 until the beaded length fits your wrist – allow for the lobster clasp.

Make a second beaded chain following steps 1-3 so that you have two beaded chains the same length.

  6. Continue joining the two beaded chains in this manner. The joining rings make a ‘zigzag’ of three jump rings (B) down the centre of the bracelet.
