Long Mobius Three-Stranded Necklace
Make this simple chain maille weave using three different coloured jump rings.
Materials
You will need:- 282 x champagne anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 5mm, WD 1.2mm
- 282 x brown anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 5mm, WD 1.2mm
- 141 x green anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 5mm, WD 1.2mm
- 2 x champagne anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 10.2mm, WD 1.6mm
- two pairs of smooth jawed chain nose or flat nose pliers
Instructions
- This simple chain maille weave is called the mobius weave. Close one large brown ring. Link one champagne ring to the large brown ring.
- Weave one small brown ring through the large brown ring from step 1, through the centre of the champagne ring, and close the ring.
- Weave one champagne ring through the centre of the champagne and small brown rings added in the previous steps.
- Repeat step 3 with one small brown ring, weaving the ring through the centre of the champagne ring just added, and close the ring.
- Repeat step 4 with one green ring, weaving the ring through the centre of the champagne and small brown rings just added, and close the ring.
- Weave one champagne ring through the centre of the champagne, small brown and green rings added in the previous steps.
- Repeat step 6 with one small brown ring, weaving the ring through the centre of the champagne ring just added, and close the ring.
- Repeat steps 3-7 twenty five times.
- Attach a second chain to the large ring by repeating steps 1-7 thirty times.
- Attach a third chain to the large ring beneath the second chain, by repeating steps 1-7 thirty six times. Link one large brown ring through the ends of the three chains you have just made.
- To make the chain which will go around your neck, repeat steps 1-8 fifty times, attaching the chain to one of the large rings. When your necklace is the desired length link the last pair of champagne and small brown rings to second large brown ring.
Variations
- Use black, ice black and silver anodised aluminium rings for a glamorous evening wear design.
- Experiment with more or less strands using complimentary colour combinations.
- Make a multistrand bracelet to create a matching set.
