Rainbow Roundmaille Bangle​

Materials​

• 144 black saw cut anodised aluminium jump rings, ID 6.8mm, WD 1.6mm
• 24 red EPDM rubber o-rings, ID 6.4mm, WD 1.63mm
• 24 orange EPDM rubber o-rings, ID 6.4mm, WD 1.63mm
• 24 yellow EPDM rubber o-rings, ID 6.4mm, WD 1.63mm
• 24 green EPDM rubber o-rings, ID 6.4mm, WD 1.63mm
• 24 blue EPDM rubber o-rings, ID 6.4mm, WD 1.63mm
• 24 purple EPDM rubber o-rings, ID 6.4mm, WD 1.63mm

Tools:

• two pairs of smooth jawed chain nose or flat nose pliers

Instructions​

1. Link four o-rings on an open jump ring and close. Position the rings as in the picture by gently patting the rings. Make sure the rings are sitting in the same orientation as shown.
   
   
   
   
   
2. Link an open jump ring through the two lower o-rings from step 1 and add two new o-rings. Close the jump ring. Once you have placed the jump ring through the two o-rings from step 1, you will find it easier to pick up the joined rings before adding the new o-rings. After you have closed the jump ring, pat your piece into position.
   
   Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have added 12 yellow o-rings followed by 12 green, 12 blue, 12 purple, 12 red and 12 orange o-rings.
   
   
   
   
   
3. You will now be adding an extra row to widen your chain. Link one jump ring through two o-rings at the top of your chain and add two new o-rings.
   
   
   
   
   
4. Link one jump ring through two edge rings and one of the new o-rings added in step 3. Add a new o-ring and close the jump ring. Continue adding o-rings in this way using the matching o-ring colour until your chain is three o-rings wide and 35 anodised aluminium jump rings long.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Join the two ends of your chain by weaving an open jump ring through two o-rings from one end and the two corresponding o-rings from the other end. Close the jump ring.
   
   Repeat with the next four o-rings. Your cuff will seem too large but the inner diameter will decrease when you join the sides to form the round maille.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Curl your cuff so that the two sides meet. Join the corresponding sides of o-rings with two pieces of scrap wire or thread, leaving about three sets of o-rings in between.
   
   Place an open jump ring through two o-rings from one side and the two corresponding o-rings from the other side. Close the jump ring.
   
   
   
   
   
7. Place an open jump ring through the bottom two o-rings joined in step 6 and through the next two corresponding o-rings below.
   
   
   
   
   
8. Remove the ties and repeat step 7 until you have completely joined the two sides of the cuff into a bangle.

Variations​

• Use matching anodised aluminium jump rings for that extra bright rainbow look.
• Instead of doing colour batches try alternating the rings (red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple) for an all over rainbow effect.
• For a lighter summery feel, try white o-rings with jump rings in one or more pastel shades.
