European 4-1 Graduated Shaped Necklace​

This necklace uses three different ring sizes to shape a strip of European 4-1 so that it lays flat when worn as a necklace. This can be made in all the same colour or different colour shades.

Materials​

For a 44cm (17.5") necklace, you will need:

• 235 silver anodised aluminium jump rings, ID 2.7mm, WD 0.81mm
• 376 ice blue anodised aluminium jump rings, ID 3.0mm, WD 0.81mm
• 376 royal blue anodised aluminium jump rings, ID 3.6mm, WD 0.81mm
• silver plated 2-strand clasp

Tools:

• two pairs of smooth jawed chain nose, flat nose, or bent nose pliers

Instructions​

NOTE: You will not be able to speed weave using micromaille as the weave is very close. Instead, you will have to add one ring at a time.

1. Link four closed silver rings with one open silver ring. Position the rings as shown in the left hand picture, making sure that you orientate the rings in exactly the same way (left hand picture).
   
   Weave one open ice blue ring through the lower left hand ring and through the lower right hand ring. Add two closed ice blue rings before closing the jump ring (centre picture).
   
   Repeat using ice blue rings (right hand picture).
   
   
   
   
2. Weave one open royal blue ring through the lower left hand ring and through the lower right hand ring. Add two closed royal blue rings before closing the jump ring (left hand picture).
   
   Repeat using royal blue rings (right hand picture).
   
   This is the depth of the necklace and you will now work sideways to make your necklace longer.
   
   
   
   
3. Weave one open silver ring through the second and then first silver edge rings of your strip, link two closed silver rings and close.
   
   
   
   
   
4. Weave one ice blue ring through the third, then second edge ring of the strip, and through the last closed ring added.
   
   Add one closed ice blue ring (left hand picture).
   
   Repeat once with ice blue rings (right hand picture).
   
   
   
   
   
5. Weave one royal blue ring through the fifth, then fourth edge ring of the strip, and through the last closed ring added.
   
   Add one closed royal blue ring (left hand picture).
   
   Repeat once with royal blue rings (right hand picture).
   
   You will notice that your work is already beginning to fan out.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Repeat steps 3-5 until your necklace is the desired length.
   
   
7. You will now attach the clasp. The multi strand clasps pull apart.
   
   Weave one silver ring through the top two silver rings and attach to the top ring of the clasp.
   
   Weave one ice blue ring through the first ice blue ring and the silver ring above and attach to the top ring of the clasp.
   
   Weave one royal blue ring through both royal blue rings and attach to the lower ring of the clasp.
   
   Weave one royal blue ring through the first royal blue ring and the second ice blue ring above and attach to the lower ring of the clasp.
   
   

Variations​

• Use shades of the same colour with silver - lavender and purple, ice and rose pink, ice black and black.
• Try gold with orand and red.
• Widen the necklace with an extra row of each colour/ring size.
