Photo Tutorial European 6-1 Bracelet

Author's Note
Our projects were very popular during the lifetime of our business and we wanted to ensure they continued to provide inspiration for chain maillers whatever their experience. It's a pleasure to see they will live on with Chainmaillers.com

European 6-1 Bracelet

European 6-1 is very similar to European 4-1 in its construction and produces a dense slinky weave. Our instructions show how to make a single strip of European 6-1 and, in the Double Strip Bracelet, how to add to this to make wider pieces of European 6-1.

Single Strip Bracelet

Materials

You need a high aspect ratio for this weave of no lower than 5 – any less and you will struggle to link the rings and the final result will be too stiff. The higher the aspect ratio, the looser the weave.

For an 18cm bracelet, you will need:
  • 98 bright aluminium jump rings ID 6.9mm, WD 1.29mm - A
  • 49 pink anodised aluminium jump rings ID 6.7mm, WD 1.29mm – B
  • 12mm silver plated lobster clasp
  • optional: 4 bright aluminium jump rings ID 3.2mm, WD 1.29mm - C
Tools:
  • Two pairs of smooth faced chain nose or flat nose pliers

Instructions

  1. Close all the bright aluminium jump rings (A). Open one pink jump ring (B), link six bright aluminium jump rings (A) and close. Lay the rings on your work surface as shown.

  2. Link one pink jump ring (B) through the last two pairs of bright aluminium rings (A) from step 1 and add two closed bright aluminium rings (A). Close.

Tip: Link the pink jump ring whilst your work is laying flat. Once you have linked the pink ring, lift the ring with your pliers to add the closed rings and to close the jump ring. Lay your work down and pat gently to reposition the rings. If your work does not lie properly, it is probably because a ring is incorrectly linked.

  3. Repeat step 2 until your bracelet is the right length.

  4. When your bracelet is the correct length, link one pink ring (B) through the last two pairs of bright aluminium rings (A) added. Link your lobster clasp and close.

Optional: Link one bright aluminium ring (C) through the last two pairs of bright aluminium rings.

  5. At the other end of the bracelet, link one pink ring (B) through the last two pairs of bright aluminium rings (A), as in step 4. The lobster clasp attaches to the last pink ring (B).

Optional: Link one bright aluminium ring (C) through the last two pairs of bright aluminium rings.
