Full Persian 6-1

CGI Tutorial Full Persian 6-1

Author's Note
I wanted to contribute my tutorials to Chainmaillers.com to help ensure that the entire chainmaille community has access to them. The tutorials are presented here with the same images and text from my old site CGMaille. I hope they continue to help inspire you to learn and create many amazing pieces!

Weave Background
Full Persian is a weave that imitates the look and feel of rope. This tutorial is for Full Persian 6-1; Full Persian 8-1 is possible with larger AR's.

Aspect Ratio & Ring Sizes
Full Persian takes an AR of ~5.5 and up. 22awg 1/8", 20awg 3/16", 18swg 1/4" and 16swg 5/16" make a chain with a nice amount of flex.

Metric sizes - approximately 0.6mm wire/3mm ID; 0.8mm wire/4.8mm ID; 1.2mm wire/6.4mm ID; and 1.6mm wire/8mm ID.

Tutorial Color Scheme
New rings are gold and old rings are silver.

Step 1:Close 4 rings and put them on two other rings. Lay them out so they make a 2-2-2 chain. Pre-open 2 rings, but don't weave them yet.

Step 1a: Spread the rightmost 2 rings apart, and slide the leftmost 2 rings forward and between the spread rings. Spread the right end of the middle pair of rings open. It's tricky to hold them like this, so move right on to...

Step 2: Pass the 2 pre-opened rings between the middle rings from the previous step. The new rings should go through the eye formed by the right- and leftmost rings from the previous step. Make sure the new rings don't end up connected to the middle rings.

Step 3: Put 2 rings through the rings you just added, one on either side of the vertical rings.

Note: You can repeat steps 2 and 3 to finish the chain. Once you get a hang of it, you can move on to the speedweaving technique. The speedweaving technique may not work with tight AR's, in which case just use Steps 2 & 3.

Step 4: Close 2 rings and put them on an open ring. Pass the (horizontal) open ring between the spread (horizontal) rings, and through the eye formed by the 2 pairs of (vertical) rings. Arrange the new vertical rings so there's one on either side of the old vertical rings.

Step 5: Pass an open ring through the eye and the 2 closed rings from the previous step.

Now just repeat Steps 4 & 5 (or 2 & 3) until you finish the chain.

Wow!! This is a much easier way to weave FP 6-1!!! For so long I was using the two separate rings way of starting this weave!! And I've always wanted to make more necklaces using this weave but steered clear because of the cumbersome way of starting it!! No more now!!! Thank you so kindly, Phong!! You truly ROCK with your tutorials!!! Today is Cinco de Mayo, so !Muchas gracias, Senior Phong!!
