Micro Maille European 4-1​

Materials​

You will need:

• 245 ice pink anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 2.7mm, WD 0.81mm
• 245 purple anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 2.7mm, WD 0.81mm
• 270 matte silver anodised aluminium saw cut jump rings, ID 2.7mm, WD 0.81mm
• silver plated 3-strand clasp

The anodised rings come in lots of different colours and can be used with other metals such as copper, bronze or jewellers brass. The best effect is created using contrasting colours.

Tools:

• two pairs of smooth jawed chain nose, or bent nose pliers

Instructions​

1. Link one matte silver ring through two matte silver and one pink closed jump rings. Position the rings so that they are sitting in the same orientation as shown in the picture.
   
   Weave one matte silver ring up through the lower left-hand ring, down through the lower right-hand ring and link two closed matte silver rings before closing. Lay out the rings as shown.
   
   
   
   
   
2. Continue adding rings in this way until you have six matte silver rings down the centre column.
   
   Weave one more matte silver ring at the bottom of the centre column of rings and add one closed purple ring before closing. Lay out the rings as shown.
   
   
   
   
   
3. You will be increasing the width of the cuff for the next five rows and so will be adding one ring to a single ring at each end of a row. At the same time, the numbers of ice pink, purple and matte silver rings will be increasing and decreasing to form the diamond pattern.
   
   Link one ice pink ring to the top ice pink ring.
   
   Weave one ice pink ring up through the matte silver ring below (ie the second ring) and the top ice pink ring and close. This ring should lay on top of the previous ring added.
   
   Continue adding rings in this way until you have linked 2 ice pink, 5 matte silver and 2 purple rings. Note that the last purple ring added is linked through one ring only.
   
   
   
   
   
4. Rings are added in the same way in subsequent rows with the rings added lying either on top or beneath the previous ring added. The number of rings linked on each row are detailed below:
   
   Link 3 ice pink, 4 matte silver and 3 purple rings.
   
   Link 4 ice pink, 3 matte silver and 4 purple rings.
   
   Link 5 ice pink, 2 matte silver and 5 purple rings.
   
   
   
   
   
5. Link 6 ice pink, 1 matte silver and 6 purple rings.
   
   Link 7 ice pink and 7 purple rings. This is the widest point of the cuff with fourteen rings in the row.
   
   You will now be decreasing the number of rings in a row. To do this you will link every ring added through two rings.
   
   Link 6 ice pink, 1 matte silver and 6 purple rings.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Link 5 ice pink, 2 matte silver and 5 purple rings.
   
   Link 4 ice pink, 3 matte silver and 4 purple rings.
   
   Link 3 ice pink, 4 matte silver and 3 purple rings.
   
   
   
   
   
7. Link 2 ice pink, 5 matte silver and 2 purple rings.
   
   Link 1 ice pink, 6 matte silver and 1 purple rings.
   
   Link 7 matte silver rings. This is the narrowest point of the cuff with seven rings in the row.
   
   
   
   
   
8. You will begin increasing the width of the cuff again with the pink and purple diamonds swapping sides. Link 1 purple, 6 matte silver and 1 pink rings.
   
   
   
   
   
9. Steps 3-8 detail the number of rings needed in each row to create the diamond pattern. Repeat steps 3-8 to increase and decrease the sides of the cuff altering the numbers of ice pink, purple and matte silver rings to form the diamond pattern. The pink and purple diamonds swap sides down the length of the cuff with the matte silver diamond remaining in the middle.
   
   
   
   
   
10. The cuff needs to end with six matte silver rings in the last row. If you need to make the cuff a little longer, but not an entire pattern repeat, add extra rows of six matte silver rings equally to each end of the cuff.
    
    
    
    
    
11. To join the clasp: link one matte silver ring through the top loop of the clasp and the top two matte silver rings at the end of the cuff. Link the centre clasp loop to the middle two rings and the bottom loop to the bottom two rings. Repeat at the other end to join the other half of the clasp.
    
    

Variations​

• Make a classy coloured cuff to go with any outfit using ice black, champagne and matte silver.
• Use more colours either with one colour like matte silver down the centre and different colours down the sides or choose a group of colours and alternate them. If you choose to make a multi-coloured cuff, you may find it helpfull to draw a basic colour chart plan before you start.
• Use two colours - one down the centre and the other contrasting colour along the sides.
