CGI Tutorial GSG

Author's Note
I wanted to contribute my tutorials to Chainmaillers.com to help ensure that the entire chainmaille community has access to them. The tutorials are presented here with the same images and text from my old site CGMaille. I hope they continue to help inspire you to learn and create many amazing pieces!

Weave Background
GSG is based on Half Persian 3-1 Sheet 6. GSG is basically two rows of Half Persian 3-1 Sheet 6; if you know how to make that, you can make GSG with little additional difficulty. Since there are fewer rings to stabilize each row, the beginning of the weave can get tricky if the rings get out of whack. You can make a wider patch of Half Persian 3-1 Sheet 6 to start with, then change to 2-ring rows for an easier start to GSG.

Aspect Ratio & Ring Sizes
GSG can be made with smaller AR's than Half Persian 3-1 Sheet 6; down to about 4.2. Larger AR's will simply make the chain more open and easier to weave. 20awg 1/8", 18swg 3/16" and 16swg 1/4" rings work at the tight end of the scale.

Metric sizes - approximately 0.8mm wire/3mm ID; 1.2mm wire/4.8mm ID; and 1.6mm wire/6.5mm ID.

Tutorial Color Scheme
New rings are gold, old rings are steel.

Step 1:Add 2 preclosed rings to an open ring. Close the open ring and flip the preclosed rings to resemble the picture. The two preclosed rings should make an eye ().

Step 3: Preclose 2 rings and put them on an open ring. Pass the open ring down through the eye from the previous steps. Arrange the preclosed rings to form another () eye.

Step 4: Pass an open ring up through the eye from the previous step, and up and around the eye from Step 1.
